It is unlikely that one can afford to have a room only to meditate, but a simple corner is enough, is likely to make that corner into your usual place, so you can build your environment around it.
You can turn your corner in a special place, with flowers and aromatherapy essences, or perhaps an object, that means a lot to you. It is known that the emotional response to these items of beauty evoke within us to get help quickly in an alpha state. Make sure that you can sit comfortably in your corner.
If you chose an area that has little space or is easily distracted with things around, you can try the Zen method of turning at a wall, about 80 cm away. The idea is to keep your eyes open throughout the meditation, concentrating on the wall. It is difficult for most people, however can be good for those who tend to fall asleep during meditation.
If time permits, patios, balconies and gardens are good places to meditate, if they are quiet and if it cannot be distracted by the beauty outside.
It can be very pleasant to use these areas as a special treat, once in a while. Varying your place of meditation can be very inspiring and acts as an energy booster when you feel tired or discouraged.
Put them around at will, explaining exactly what you are doing and why you feel that you need this time alone, you can also invite them to join with you in meditation. If they still do not understand and continue to question you, remember that you made a special effort to get this time, so do not be afraid to seize it and use it for that fate.
Meditate for how long?
When you are learning how to meditate for beginners, the duration of your initial sessions will be determined by how long you are able to concentrate for a continuous period. It’s best to meditate while feeling comfortable – for some people, 10 to 15 minutes – and gradually increasing up to 45 minutes, as their concentration is improved.
The objective is not to analyze or reach any goal, because the expectations will lead you to anticipate a specific outcome. You just need to keep your eyes sharp, but relaxed and be aware of your senses.
Stay away from computer monitors, or any other electrical appliances, which generally emit radiation noise, that interfere with your personal energy vibration and can subtly disturb the mind.
Keep near you a glass of water, tissues, etc… (Only the essential), so that you do not have get up.
Although you sought a quiet place and without distractions, the sounds that you still can hear, they should not be a problem (unless they are perturbing of course). Once seated, you must be aware of the sounds you hear, but do not focus on them.
